What is PRP Therapy?

PRP is Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy.  It is now emerging as a technology for facial rejuvenation.  Since the 1990’s PRP therapy has been used in dental and oral surgery, and to aid in soft tissue recovery following plastic surgery. It is also used for spine, shoulder, elbow, foot and ankle, hand & wrist and spine medicine. At Orange County Pain Specialist, it is used to help with pain management.

PRP therapy harvests the plasma contained within a patient’s blood. These platelets are best known for helping with the clotting of blood for an injury. What’s exciting is these platelets also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors which are very important in the healing of injuries and the regeneration of healthy cells.

How PRP Microneedling Works

We harvest PRP from your own blood. The blood is carefully drawn by our experienced staff and placed in a centrifuge. The plasma is separated from your blood. This plasma contains stem cells which encourage the growth of new cells.  We then use microneedling to infuse the harvested plasma back into your skin.  We do numb your face in advance of the treatment so it is a relatively pain-free treatment.*

To see the best results, we recommend a series of 3 – 4 treatments for facial rejuvenation.
